At Capital Goalie School Inc. (CGS), we believe each goaltender has his own strengths and weaknesses. Our goal is to build a solid foundation of goaltending knowledge that will benefit each individual and lead him to achieve his ultimate potential as an established goaltender. In the end, we focus on giving goaltenders the tools to succeed, rather than simply change their style of play.

Our philosophy

At Capital Goalie School Inc. (CGS), we believe each goaltender has his own strengths and weaknesses. Our goal is to build a solid foundation of goaltending knowledge that will benefit each individual and lead him to achieve his ultimate potential as an established goaltender. In the end, we focus on giving goaltenders the tools to succeed, rather than simply change their style of play.

The way our school operates is simple. We teach the skills and techniques necessary to be successful in today’s fast-paced game while still integrating each goalie’s individual style of play in our teaching. Our teaching will also incorporate methods on how to prepare both physically and mentally before games and on how to deal mentally with different situations that can arise during games.

Our services

The school offers 1- or 2-hour sessions. Our on-ice drills follow a traditional format as we have a maximum of 8 goaltenders on the ice with 3-4 stations, depending on the number of goalies on the ice. The students-to-coach ratio will never exceed 3:1 on large surfaces or 2:1 on small surfaces (i.e. Minto studio rink).

Capital Goalie School Inc. also offers consulting services. These include on-ice training for goaltenders and coaches, assistant coaches and assigned goalie coaches. We also offer individual goalie coaching at team practices at the minor hockey level. CGS also provides in-depth goalie evaluations, CGS’s own evaluation/scouting report, with possibility of a video-tape game analysis.

All Capital Goalie School Inc. services are fully bilingual.

Our costs

The price of each session depends on the time at which the session takes place, ice availability, the type of session (private, semi-private or open, on- or off-ice consultation) and available combos.

Our staff

Patrick Rochefort

Patrick has always strived to achieve the next level in his goaltending career. He has over 15 years of goaltending experience and has played at several levels including teams such as the North Bay Midget AAA Trappers (Great North Midget Hockey League), the National Sports Academy in Lake Placid, NY (Mid-West Prep Hockey League), the Gatineau Mustangs Jr. B (Eastern Junior Hockey League), and the Philadelphia Jr. A Flyers (Atlantic Junior Hockey League). Finally, while Patrick attended the University of Delaware where he received an engineering degree, he played for the University’s Division 1 team (American Collegiate Hockey Association). On or off the ice, he always puts his best effort forward. He carries the same work ethic into his coaching style and always expects an honest effort from his students. Patrick pushes every individual to achieve his/her personal best and breaks down the science of goaltending into a simple and easy-to-understand system. Patrick is now working for an engineering firm in North Bay.

Dominique Hurtubise

Dominique had his first successes as a goalie while playing keeper in soccer. He found various ways of transferring his acquired knowledge to his game on the ice. He has been involved in several sports since a young age and has participated in hockey, soccer, baseball, volleyball, golf, mountain biking and swimming. Dominique is the founder of CGS with co-founders Sébastien and Patrick. After a year of teaching, he returned to school to get a master’s degree in Teaching, Learning and Evaluation from the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. Dominique is now working in a high school as a history/geography and physical education teacher.

Sébastien Hurtubise

Sébastien has an eye for fine details, which comes from watching the pros in the NHL. No aspect of goaltenders’ game is out of bounds for extensive analysis. It is this attention to detail that was the inspiration behind CGS. Sébastien is always willing to try new sports but has extensive experience in hockey, soccer, volleyball, cross country, track and field and golf. He is one of the school's co-founders, and has over 14 years of goaltending experience at various levels, as well as over 3 years of CanSkate coaching at various levels. Sébastien and his team won the 2011 annual juvenile selects tournament in Toronto. Sébastien has completed an engineering program at the University of Ottawa and is currently working for an engineering firm in Ottawa.

Alex Beaudry

Alex has always demonstrated an exemplary work ethic off and on the ice. He was always fascinated by the athleticism and nerves of steel of goaltenders. That is why, from a young age, Alex decided to play goalie. He enjoyed great success as he played for the Nepean Raiders and the Kemptville 73’s from 2005 to 2009. This success wasn’t enough for Alex, he wanted a greater challenge as well as an education. He then made the move to Providence College, in Rhode Island, where he studied Business Economics. While attending Providence College, Alex received the following awards or nominations as goalie for the school’s Division 1 team (NCAA): Male Athlete of the Year nominee (twice), Best Defensive Player, and Most Valuable Player. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Business Economics, he came back to Ottawa to attend law school. Alex is currently doing his articling and is on his way to taking the Bar Admission Exams. Alex has been coaching goalies at various levels since he graduated from high school and always strives to bring his students to the next level.
